If you don't own the image, then it is probably a bad idea for you to show it on your page without the owner's permission.

And when you post a picture from another website, you are basically stealing their bandwidth. So it's also not a nice thing to do.

It depends. Technically, in many cases it constitutes copy write infringement. Claiming it as your own content is almost never okay, so at least cite your source. For instance, don't copy something tit for tat, but put it in a blog post. Make an original commentary. Then put in your content as a reference from a published source, and cite it. Alternatively, just put links on your page, and tell your friends to check out the cool stuff you found.

I do it all the time... So does everyone else on myspace... Lol, so it's ok, you won't get in trouble... Like if you go to yahoo.com and search images, you can put any image you want on your page... you wont get in trouble. Trust me, millions, and I mean millions of people do it...

Some people might not appreaciate you using their images so maybe at the bottom of the picture you might want to say where you got the image from giving them credit and proving you don't own it! people can definately get you in trouble for using they're stuff. thats why many of them tag them saying its theirs!

Yes it is illegal. Without the proper permission of course. It is called plaigarism. Any thought.idea, picture, paper, quote, and use of an individuals work or a group work without permission is strictly undoubtedly plaigarism.

I don閳ユ獩 think you can get into any real trouble unless it is copy righted. But it isn閳ユ獩 something you should do with out asking first. I閳ユ獫e gotten lots of pictures off different websites I always ask. Most people have no problem with it if you ask. And that you don閳ユ獩 hotlink from their site. If you host it somewhere else and link to that. Just ask first.

Well, I am going to tell you from a photographers stand point on this....

If I found one of my images being used on someone else's page without permission, I would be ticked off. I could sue for copyright infringement among other things. It could be a huge hassle...

However, there's really not a lot of people who would take the time to sue each individual person for stealing their pics. That's a risk the copyright owner takes when placing images online. I'm sure you are probably wanting to add a celebrity pic or something of that sort....

So...here's the cliche...just because so many other people do it-- doesn't mean it is right...just because no one else has been caught or punished-- doesn't mean you will/won't be...

But, will you get in trouble? Chances are, probably not.

Could you? Yes.

Can you add it? Yes you can.

Should you add it? Well, it does spice up the page and I understand that....but the right thing to do if you do add it to your page, also add "borrowed from http://....." at least then you will be giving credit where credit is due.

Just my 2 cents. :)

No, you won't get in any trouble. Once you post something on the Internet, anyone can have it.
